SRVO-065: BLAL alarm (battery low)

The encoder backup battery is low but not yet dead - the warning shot before BZAL.

What it means

The encoder backup battery is low but not yet dead - the warning shot before BZAL. This is the cheap moment: replace the batteries now, with power on, and nothing else happens. Ignore it and the next event is BZAL, lost position data, and a mastering job.

Common causes

Ranked by what technicians most often find, most likely first.

  1. Encoder backup batteries approaching end of life (typical service life is on the order of a year or two depending on model and duty).

How to fix it

  1. Replace the batteries immediately and - critically - with controller power ON, so the encoders stay powered during the swap.
  2. Add encoder batteries to the PM calendar so this warning stops being the reminder system.
