SRVO-014: Fan motor abnormal, CPU STOP

A cooling fan on the controller backplane has stopped.

What it means

A cooling fan on the controller backplane has stopped. This one has a countdown: one minute after the alarm, the CPU deliberately halts and the pendant freezes to protect itself from overheating. The number in the message says which fan - (1) above slot 1, (2) above slot 2, (3) both.

Common causes

Ranked by what technicians most often find, most likely first.

  1. Failed or stalled backplane fan motor (dust and bearing wear are the usual killers).
  2. Fan cable loose or damaged.
  3. Backplane unit fault.
  4. Main board fault (rare, last suspect).

How to fix it

  1. Identify the fan from the number in the message; check it and its cable, clean or replace as needed.
  2. If a good fan doesn't clear it, replace the backplane unit.
  3. Before any main board replacement, take a complete image backup - programs and settings live there.
  4. Don't ignore this one: the one-minute CPU stop means it will take the robot down mid-cycle.
